GEM Corporation and the AI Lab – UET to extend partnership in Artificial Intelligent research

March 3rd, 2021 – GEM Corporation has come forward to support Graphics Processing Units and shared high-performance computing resources for the AI Laboratory, Faculty of Information Technology, University of Engineering and Technology. The gesture expresses GEM’s continued commitment and assistance for the Faculty’s research on AI applications.

The sponsor takes place as GEM and the AI Lab are actively working on the deployment of Deep Learning technology.  This is just one of many projects under the collaborative research partnership between GEM and the Lab.

The Graphical processing units (GPUs) enable researchers to optimize target tasks and finish computations faster than non-specialized hardware. Thus, they can reduce the training phase’s cost, which is considered the most resource-intensive part of deep learning implementation. Mr. Tran Quoc Long, Deputy Manager at the AI Laboratory & lecturer at UET, said: “The current GPU usually takes up to a week or even a month to yield the results. With the new GPU, we can speed up the process five times, meaning that we can get the job done within a day”. GEM’s contribution hopes to enable the university’s research lab to run models with massive numbers of parameters more quickly and efficiently.

The support not only strengthens the bilateral relationship but rather implies GEM’s long-term investment in the boundless growth potentials of technology. In the past four years, the two entities have tapped into the potentials of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligent, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), and gained extensive experience in their application.

The partnership provides an opportunity for GEM’s associates to work with a leading university in IT research and training on projects aimed at solving real, innovative business challenges. What is more, UET students can also gain more hands-on experience alongside personnel from GEM’s business development department. Teams will focus on initiatives that directly impact GEM’s clients across the globe. The joined efforts have enabled GEM and UET to make exclusive contributions to the IT industry.

In 2021, with AI being the focal area of GEM business development strategies, both parties look forward to accelerating the synergy and reaching new heights together.
